Molly said that this dish is “an impromptu cooking of the iconic Midwestern dish”, which confuses many of us in the Midwest. Popcorn salad? Brain and I have lived in the Midwest for our entire lives, and we have never tried anything like this before. In addition, it sounds disgusting. In addition to popcorn and peas, this recipe requires mayonnaise, sour cream, apple cider vinegar, sugar, Dijon mustard, carrots, celery, and cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning.
We aired this viral video earlier this week, and my curiosity benefited me a lot. I asked Brian if he would try this dish if I had done it, and he reluctantly agreed. So, I went out last night to buy almost all the ingredients, and then I made it into a ball!
The recipe is easy to follow, but I did omit watercress and spring onions. They just don’t think it is necessary. In hindsight, I should probably wait for the mixed popcorn before we are ready to eat the popcorn, but hey, you live and learn. The slightly wet popcorn never killed anyone!
This morning, after Brain, Bob and I tasted this dish on the live broadcast, I all agreed that it was not good. In fact, the brain vomited out very quickly. To be honest, I don’t think eating fresh popcorn will help, because it doesn’t taste very good. It was sour and sweet at the same time, and I knew I did it right, because I watched the video while organizing it. In addition, the smell is terrible. I think that is apple cider vinegar.
